FM 1488 is an east/west State Highway that runs through the southwest part of Montgomery County. The County, with funding from TxDOT, is widening FM 1488 from a 2-lane road to a 4-lane divided roadway. The scope of work included the design for almost 6 miles of proposed pavement design including the design of three signalized intersections and numerous cross street intersections. The project also required sidewalk design and drainage considerations totaling almost $38 million in estimated construction costs. Traffic progression through the alignment was a major consideration for the signal timing. Preserving the existing decorative subdivision entrances and signage was a priority at the signalized and signed intersections.
