The project involves the design of approximately 1.25 miles of a four-lane, concrete roadway with a raised median in a new location from Franz Road north to Morton Road in west Harris County. Klotz Associates will provide engineering services for the design of the roadway, intersection, drainage, and traffic signals. Drainage will be the key element in the design of the Katy-Fort Bend Road. Terrain at the project location is extremely flat, and the area has a history of flooding. A closed storm sewer system will be designed with the possibility of detention and mitigation. The need for detention or mitigation will be determined in a drainage report completed by Klotz Associates. There will be a signal modification at Franz Road. Klotz Associates will conduct a traffic warrant study to determine if a signal is required at Morton Road. The alignment will run north from the intersection of Franz Road at Katy-Fort Bend Road to an existing easement owned by Harris County and located just west of an existing Harris County park. The alignment will continue through Morton Road and tie into the existing Katy-Hockley Cut Off north of Morton Road. The intersection of Katy-Hockley Cut Off will be studied and redesigned for the proposed Katy-Fort Bend Road. Estimated construction cost is between $5.5 and $6 million. |
