The Northeast Well Collection Line (WCL) is a low-pressure, reinforced concrete water transmission line that conveys groundwater from six active wells to the Northeast Water Plant in Houston, Texas. Constructed in the 1950s, the WCL had reached its design life and was known to have leaks causing water loss and requiring continual maintenance.
Klotz Associates designed 7,000 linear feet of pipe rehabilitation for existing 16-, 30-, and 36-inch well collection lines. The firm evaluated various types of rehabilitation and determined that sliplining, a trenchless method, was the best option. Sliplining consists of inserting a new pipe inside the existing pipe and is ideal when existing pipe is not structurally sound and surface disruption needs to be minimized. |
